STEM ECHS robotics team wins tournament championship

VEX Robotics Team #8451A, also known as The Originals, recently won the VEX Robotics Competition held at Vanguard Christian Institute in Comfort, Texas.

The Originals won first place out of 20 teams hailing from Austin, Boerne, Del Rio, Kingsville and Fate, Texas. They also won the Judges Award, which means the judges were most impressed by their robot.

Even more impressive is the fact that the students built their robot in 2 days.

After weeks of attempting to build a robot with a launcher, they realized that the simpler the robot the better.

While part of the team was still trying to smooth out the kinks in the robot with the launcher, other team members built the base for a simple robot, which ended up being the one they took to competition.

The team ended up winning the tournament and advanced to the South Texas Champs – StarStruck VEX Robotics Competition slated for Feb. 25 in Houston.

The team includes juniors Noah Johnson, Nick Cortez, Angeline Macias, Vincent Banuelos, Dulce Zuniga and Sophomores Nathaniel Tapia and Ingrid Rios.

Good luck, TEAM #8451A!
